Split a PDF
Cut a PDF into pieces by page range, every N pages, or pick the pages you want from thumbnails.

- Drop your PDF onto the box above. You see its name, page count and size.
- Choose a method:
- By page range: type ranges separated by commas, like
1-3, 5, 8-. Each range becomes its own PDF. An open end such as8-means “to the last page”. Tick Put all ranges in one PDF to combine them instead. - Every N pages: cut the document into equal parts, for example every 10 pages.
- Extract selected pages: tick the pages you want on a thumbnail grid and get them as a single new PDF.
- By page range: type ranges separated by commas, like
- Press the button, then download. Several files arrive as one ZIP, and each one can also be downloaded separately.
Your PDF is not uploaded
Splitting is done in your browser. The page copies the pages you asked for into new documents using a PDF library in a background thread, and thumbnails are drawn on your device. The file is never sent to a server, which makes this safe for contracts, payslips, medical letters and anything else you would not want to hand to a stranger. The DevTools steps in the FAQ show how to see this for yourself.
What you get
Each output is a normal PDF with the original pages, so text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their quality and fonts are preserved. File names tell you what is inside: report-pages-1-3.pdf, report-part-2.pdf or report-selected.pdf.
Because the new files share nothing with the original, a document where one large image is used on every page may produce parts that are each larger than you expect. If you need small parts, run them through the PDF compressor afterwards.
Common uses and tips
- Send only what is needed. Extract the pages that apply to a recipient rather than the whole file.
- Separate a scanned batch. If you scanned many one-page documents in one go, “every 1 page” breaks them apart.
- Remove pages. To drop pages, select all the pages you want to keep. The rotate, reorder and delete tool is easier when you also need to rearrange pages.
- Mind the numbering. Ranges use the position of the page in the file (the first page is 1), not any number printed on the page.
- Reversed or out-of-range entries, like
5-3or12in a ten page file, are reported with a clear message, so nothing is silently skipped. - Password-protected files cannot be read. Remove the password first.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write a page range?
Use commas and dashes, for example 1-3, 5, 8-10. Each range becomes its own PDF, or choose to merge them into one.
What does "every N pages" do?
It cuts the document into equal parts of N pages, such as 10 documents of 5 pages from a 50 page PDF.
Do I get one file or many?
Several outputs are bundled into a ZIP. A single output downloads as a PDF directly.
Are my files uploaded anywhere? How can I check?
No. The PDF splitter runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device. You can verify it: open your browser's DevTools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac), switch to the Network tab, tick "Preserve log", clear the list and process a file. You will only see requests for this site's own static files, never one that carries your data. You can also turn on "Offline" in the Network tab (or disconnect from the internet) once the page has loaded, and the tool keeps working.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit a service worker saves the tool to your device, so it opens and works without a connection. Only advertising needs the internet; the processing never does.
